As reported earlier, the Moose River Plains Road is generally solid with only a few soft spots and some soft shoulders.
From Byron Park:
The Fern Mountain trail has a half-dozen wet spots but they’re not big or deep and we’ll work on draining them Friday.
Photos below are from when we marked the course on Wednesday…
The Moose River Plains Road is in good condition. According to riders that went from Cedar River to Limekiln this weekend the road is solid with very few soft spots. The shoulders are still a bit soft but you shouldn’t be over there anyway!
The Indian Lake and Inlet Highway Departments opened the road to vehicles today “so traffic can pack it down and make it even faster.”
The Fern Mountain singletrack trail is solid as well. If this week’s weather stays relatively dry the course conditions should be good from end to end.
We’ll be marking the course Wednesday and giving a final report after that.
Online registration at BikeReg.com ends at midnight Thursday June 8. BikeReg is predicting BFC 2017 will be at or near the cap of 1,000 racers when online registration ends. If that’s the case then Friday and Saturday may be packet pickup only, with no in-person registration. So don’t wait, register now!
As of this writing there were less than 30 spots left on the afternoon shuttle. The morning shuttle is sold out. Check out the posts linked below to answer all your BFC questions:
In addition to the new and expanded Cat1 (competitive) and Cat2 (recreational) categories BFC 2017 will give out prizes for: Tandems; Juniors; Biggest Team; Youngest, Oldest and Farthest finishers (within the 5-hour timing limit) and the Screamen Eagle Fatbike Challenge.

Produced in conjunction with the Black Fly Challenge, the Central Adirondack Outdoor Guide offers a sampling of the attractions, events and activities found in the mountain towns that surround the wild and scenic Moose River Recreation Area: Inlet, Raquette Lake, Blue Mountain Lake, Indian Lake and Sabael.
In addition to maps, trail descriptions and outdoor info, the Outdoor Guide is filled with ads for local shops, services, dining, lodging and camping. Please support theses cycling-friendly sponsors of the BFC!

Once again Screamen Eagle is stepping up to provide the prizes for the Fatbike Challenge. As interest in the Fatbike Challenge grows we are receiving questions about prizes and rules. You can get the answer to the former if you scroll down on the Prizes page.
As for the latter, in the interest of fair competition we have adopted a simple rule: All bikes in the Fatbike Challenge must have a minimum tire width of 3.8″ (97 mm) or larger and rims 2.16″ (55 mm) or wider, as explained on this Wikipedia page.
Take note – we will NOT be measuring tires! Fatbike Challenge competitors must self-police and report non-conforming bikes to race officials at the scorers table.
To enter the Fatbike Challenge check the ‘Yes’ to the “Are you riding a Fatbike?” registration question at BikeReg. If you already registered you can edit your registration. If you can’t figure out how to do that contact BikeReg. Procrastinators can add their bib number to the Fatbike Challenge list at race day registration.
