The Biggest Black Fly Yet!

BFC 2018 didn’t set any timing records but it was a perfect day for racing and saw record numbers for entries, starters, finishers, finish line party and another record that may never be broken.

There were 914 registration, 843 starters and 835 finishers, all record numbers but the biggest number of the day was the 6,570 miles between Indian Lake, NY and furthest-finisher winner Koki Gada’s hometown of Yokahama, Japan!

There were an estimated 2,500 racers and fans at the finish line party cheering on racers in front of Indian Lake School and enjoying the party in back of St. Mary’s Church.

Indian Lake Fire Department fed an estimated 1,000+ racers & spectators and the beer tent was constantly busy while Rocky and the Mooseknuckles performed their signature blend of rockin’ blues.

As always, the BFC race committee will meet soon to review everything and find areas where we can improve the experience for all BFC racers, fans and volunteers.

Lastly, we need to thank Indian Lake School, St. Mary’s Church and the legion of volunteers, police, fire and EMS that make this race possible. Without them there would be no Black Fly Challenge!

These dedicated people along with our loyal racers and fans are the reason this is The Adirondacks’ Greatest Race.

BFC 2014 Updated Numbers

Registrations: 796
Started: 729
Finished: 721
DNF: 8
DNS: 67
DQ: 1 (Someone started without a helmet!)

Unless something new pops up these should be the final numbers.

Black Fly 2009 Race Notes

The 14th running of the Black Fly Challenge saw a record 300 entries, a rise in the number of female competitors and continued growth in cyclocross competition.

The Sport and Beginner mtb categories remain strong but some competitors moved from the Expert mtb category to the new Cyclocross category, thus lowering the level of competition in Expert. It has become apparent that the BFC may need to add a Cyclocross age class and combine Expert age classes.

While the BFC is no longer affiliated with NORBA, the old NORBA guidelines still make sense: Any age class with less than 5 competitors should be combined with another such age class.

Possible Expert & Cyclocross classes for the 2010 BFC may be as follows:
Mens Expert mtb: 19-39 and 40-99
Womens Expert mtb: 19-99
Mens Cyclocross: 19-39 and 40-99
Womens Cyclocross: 1-99

Note to competitors: The BFC race committee is exploring electronic timing and scoring systems to produce results faster and hopes to have something new in place for the 2010 BFC.
