Black Fly Challenge 2016 was not a washout despite the rains that soaked the start. There were a record 870 registrations and two historical firsts for the BFC:
Congratulations to both! Go to the Results Page for more.

The BFC race course was marked on Wednesday and it’s safe to say that the Moose River Plains Road is the smoothest (and therefore fastest) it has ever been, thanks to recent rains and a smart decision by the Hamilton County, Inlet and Indian Lake highway departments.
The town highway departments worked the Plains road until a week before Memorial Day then decided not to touch it ’til after the race. The result is that the vehicular traffic has kicked almost all of the loose rocks off the road making for a smooth and very fast surface.
Hats off to highway superintendents Tracy, Shawn and Jamie for their consideration of the BFC! They truly deserve our thanks for making the road better every year!

BFC 2016 will be dedicated to the memory of long-time BFC veteran Jason Dellilo, of Baldwinsville, who passed away unexpectedly on February 19, 2016, at 42 years old.
Jason was born in Syracuse and graduated from P.V. Moore High School in Central Square. In the Marine Corps he served as a rifleman in the infantry division, earning several medals for outstanding performance.
He loved the outdoors, golfing, snowmobiling, the NY Giants and cycling. Jason was a competitive cyclist for over 20 years racing for Bike Loft East and more recently for the US Military.
He often said that if he could do only one race a year it would be the Black Fly Challenge. He was the BFC’s most frequent competitor, always a gentleman and a true friend of the race.
We will miss you Jason ~ the Black Fly Challenge won’t be the same without you!

Fatbike Challenge competitors will need to check “Yes” to the fatbike question at BikeReg or add their bib number to the Challenge list at race day packet pickup.

As always, the deadline to register and guarantee yourself a BFC race tee-shirt is a little less than three weeks before race day. Our original race tee-shirt deadline was midnight tonight but we’re extending it to midnight Tuesday May 24. So REGISTER NOW if you want a race tee-shirt!
Anyone that registers after midnight Tuesday will not have a race tee-shirt included in their entry fee. And for those of you that may be confused, your registration includes a cotton race tee-shirt (pictured below) NOT the new Tech Tee.
